Frequently Asked Questions

When do your courses run?
We run courses throughout the season according to demand – roughly from April to November.

Are LostBoys Fully Insured?
Yes we are, we are fully insured with a specialist kite surfing policy. If you wish to view our Kite Surfing Insurance Info just ask and we will furnish you with copies.

Why are the lessons for 3 hours only?
We have found that we can get a lot done in a 3 hour intense session. Any longer than 3 hours we have found that fatigue and concentration become a huge problem for students as there is a massive amount to take in.

We feel after a 3 hour session that you would not be getting proper and good value for your money. We therefore believe in quality sessions rather than quantity.

Do I need a wetsuit?
Yes, you do need a wetsuit if you’re going to be in the water the whole session – but we can provide one.

Do I have to buy my own board and kite?

You can if you want, or we provide you with kit if you prefer. And if you like the gear you use on our courses, you can buy it from us there and then!

What equipment should I buy?
Our instructors will be happy to advise you on equipment when you come along to one of our courses. We have our own online shop for kite surfing kit, so you can try out some kites and boards with us before you commit yourself to a purchase.

There is a lot of kite surfing equipment out there, and quality varies widely. It’s important to be aware that some of the cheaper and/or older equipment can actually be quite dangerous. At Lost Boys, we use cutting-edge equipment that’s 100% safe and very easy to use.

I’ve found a cheaper course elsewhere. What’s the deal?
Basically, you get what you pay for when it comes to kite surfing tuition.
We offer a high standard of teaching and a 1:4 teaching ratio (one teacher for every four students), in short intense sessions so you’re getting better learning, more of the time.

If you really want to learn kite surfing quickly, we believe we’re the only choice. Your time on the waves is precious – so get the most out of it.

Will I be able to kite surf?
Yes. Kite surfing is rocketing in popularity because it’s so easy to get into compared to windsurfing or normal surfing. You don’t need to be super-fit, you don’t need to travel far and you don’t need to invest years of your life.
Provided you stay safe (which we’ll take care of), you can be up on the board and enjoying the sheer exhilaration of kite surfing within a few days. Guaranteed.

Am I fit enough?
Yes. Kite surfing doesn’t require any particular level of strength or fitness. If you can swim, you can learn to kite surf.
Having said that, kite surfing will give you a fantastic workout, particularly in the upper body. It’s a great way to get fit and toned!

Am I the right age?
Anyone from the age of around 13 upwards can learn to kite surf with us. On recent courses, we’ve welcomed teenagers and mature surfers in their 60s in the same group. Everyone gets along fine because they are all in the same situation, with the same goals.

What if there’s no wind?
Unfortunately, we can’t control the weather. So if there’s no wind, or the wind is in the wrong direction, you can defer that day of your course for another time – at no extra cost. It’s worth bearing in mind that the location of Hunstanton means we can take advantage of every wind direction except easterly.

What’s it really like on a Lost Boys course?
We work hard and play hard. Our instructors are professional and supportive, helping you learn at your own pace and try out your knowledge on the board right away.

Socially, you’ll feel part of something very special – a like-minded group of kite surfers, all at the same skill level, giving each other encouragement and respect. Come and join the tribe!
